Artisan has been making mousepads in Japan since 2008 and today it is the most frequently chosen mousepad brand among professional players worldwide. 429 out of 2427 professional players use Artisan gear, which is 17.68 percent of the entire field (data from ProSettings, September 2026).
Where Artisan came from
In 2008 the mousepad market belonged to Western brands, and the choice was limited. Artisan's founders started from a simple premise: if e-sports is competition, not play, then gear should be a tool that really works, not a gadget that looks good in a photo.
The result was the SMART PAD ARTISAN, the brand's first mousepad, made in Japan. It drew attention with its distinctively light glide and quickly ended up under the mice of top players. Since then Artisan has expanded its range with further surfaces, bases and sizes, so that you can choose a mousepad to suit your own way of playing, instead of adapting your play to whatever happens to be available. Production has stayed in Japan the whole time.
What the pros play on
Among the 429 professionals using Artisan gear, four models come up again and again:
- Zero, 270 players
- Type-99, 51 players
- Hayate-Otsu v2, 46 players
- Hien, 43 players
We have all four in stock. In its 2025 year-end summary, ProSettings named the Ninja FX Zero mousepad of the year in the overall category, in Valorant and in Fortnite, and gave the Hayate-Otsu v2 a Pro’s Choice award.
Which mousepad for CS2 and which for Valorant
There is no mousepad made only for CS2 or only for Valorant. Both games come down to the same thing: repeatable movement and control over stopping the mouse. The difference lies elsewhere, in how quickly the mousepad lets the mouse go and how strongly it brakes it at the end of a movement. A low-sensitivity player aiming with the whole forearm needs something different from someone playing with the wrist at high DPI.
That is why for each model we describe how it behaves and who it suits, instead of repeating the same sentence about e-sports everywhere. If you are choosing your first Artisan mousepad, the Zero is the safest choice, and it is no coincidence that most professionals reach for it.
