Description
Artisan Ninja FX Hien XL – Black (xsoft | soft | mid)
Artisan Hien is a legend of durability and the forerunner of “Hybrid Speed” mousepads.
Its distinctive, rough texture delivers incredible feedback and speed,
while keeping control. It is the only pad that gets better over time.
Why Hien?
- “Pearskin” texture: A unique, rough weave (Amundsen weave). It gives brilliant feedback through the skates and makes micro-corrections easier.
- Speed + Control: Low static friction (easy start) combined with the kinetic friction of the texture. Ideal for tracking.
- Armor-like durability: Nicknamed “the tank”. The most durable cloth mousepad in the world. Unaffected by moisture, sweat and dirt.
- 3 hardness options: Xsoft (better braking) → Soft (balance) → Mid (max speed). Match it to your aiming style.
How does the hardness system work on the Hien?
With a rough surface (Hien), a soft foam lets you “press down” on the mouse,
increasing friction against the texture. This gives a unique braking mechanic.
XSOFT (4mm)
Very soft. The mouse sinks into the texture, which gives surprisingly strong stopping power
for such a fast mousepad. Who it is for: Players who want the speed of the Hien,
but need a “safety catch” in the form of being able to brake hard by pressing down.
Games: Valorant (aggressive style), The Finals
SOFT (4mm)
The gold standard for the Hien. It keeps the Hybrid Speed character, but it is
comfortable for the wrist and stable. The most popular choice.
Who it is for: Tracking aimers, players looking for consistency.
Games: Apex Legends, Overwatch 2, Warzone
MID (3mm)
The stiffest and fastest version. The surface is the most taut,
which maximizes glide speed. Pure speed with rough feedback.
Who it is for: High sens, wrist aimers, speed fans.
Games: Fortnite, Quake, fast-paced shooters
Comparison with other pads
| vs Artisan Zero | Hien is much faster and rough to the touch. Zero is smooth and slower (Control). Choose the Hien for tracking, the Zero for tactical FPS games. |
| vs Razer Strider | The Strider is a Hien clone, but it has a worse base (it slides) and is stiffer. The Hien has better stitching and a Poron base that grips the desk. |
| vs Zowie GTF-X | The Hien offers similar speed, but it is easier to flatten (the GTF-X often does not lie flat) and has a nicer, less “plasticky” texture. |

This is for you if:
- ✅ You play games that require tracking (Apex, OW2, CoD)
- ✅ You like to feel the texture under your mouse (feedback)
- ✅ You struggle with sweaty hands (Hien is resistant to it)
- ✅ You are looking for a mousepad that will survive years of abuse
- ✅ You want a fast mouse start without a “sticky” feeling
This is NOT for you if:
- ❌ You have very sensitive skin (the texture is rough)
- ❌ You play only CS2 at an ultra-low sens (it may be too fast)
- ❌ You are looking for a perfectly smooth surface (choose the Zero or Raiden)
Frequently asked questions
Is the Hien rough?
Yes. The surface feels like denim or pear skin (“Pearskin”).
Most players get used to it after 2-3 days, but if you have very sensitive
skin, consider using a sleeve or choose the Zero.
How does the X axis differ from the Y axis?
The Hien has a specific weave. Up-and-down movement (Y) is slightly slower than
left-and-right movement (X). Many players consider this an advantage that helps with recoil
control while keeping tracking speed.
Which hardness should I choose for the Hien?
Soft is the safest choice (a good combination of speed/comfort).
Mid choose only if you want maximum speed and a hard base.
Xsoft gives a unique feeling of “braking with the texture” when you press down.
How do I clean the Hien?
The Hien has the most noticeable weave in the whole family, so dirt sits closer to the surface and comes off more easily than from smooth surfaces. For everyday care, a horsehair brush or a lint roller is enough. When that is not enough: rinse with water, add a few drops of enzyme laundry detergent, go over it with a soft brush without pressing, and dry it flat in the shade.
